HD Supply Sponsors Shepherd Men’s 911-Mile Run for Injured Veterans

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) affect 1 in every 5 service members who return home from war. These injuries are hard to detect but devastating to the affected service members and their families.

HD Supply is proud to sponsor the “Shepherd’s Men” – a 13-member team of servicemen and one civilian – as they run from New York City to Atlanta to raise awareness and money for the Shepherd Center’s SHARE Military Initiative.

The SHARE Military Initiative at the Shepherd Center is a comprehensive rehabilitation program that focuses on assessment and treatment for post-9/11 service men and women who have sustained mild to moderate TBI and/or PTSD.

The Shepherd’s Men will run 911 miles in eight days, starting from the 9/11 Memorial in New York City on April 19 and ending at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta on April 26. Each member of the team will run the equivalent of a half-marathon (13 miles) each day, while wearing 22-pound flak vests and armor plates. The vests simulate the gear worn by U.S. Military troops and symbolize the difficulties many experience after returning from combat.

The Shepherd’s Men goal is to raise $250,000, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to support the SHARE Military Initiative.
